About the team

The Internal Controls Lead is a senior individual contributor responsible for leading and executing critical components of the company’s internal control over financial reporting (ICFR) and disclosure controls programs. As an experienced subject-matter expert, this role independently evaluates the design and operating effectiveness of IT General Controls (ITGCs) and key business process controls, and provides authoritative guidance across Finance, IT, and other corporate functions.

 

This position requires advanced technical expertise, strong cross-functional collaboration skills, and the ability to independently drive complex control activities in a global, publicly listed environment. While this position does not have direct people leadership responsibilities, it provides functional leadership, guidance, and training to control owners throughout the organization.

What you will do

  • Lead the end-to-end IT General Controls (ITGC) program, including planning, scoping, execution, documentation, and reporting
  • Evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of controls related to access management, change management, IT operations and SDLC.
  • Conduct risk assessments of IT systems, infrastructure, and process impacting financial reporting, identifying deficiencies and recommending remediation.
  • Act as the primary liaison for ITGC-related external audit inquiries, walkthroughs, and evidence requests.
  • Collaborate closely with the Corporate IT, Information Security, Finance, HR and other stakeholders to ensure control requirements are embedded into processes, and technology changes.
  • Support ICFR by performing testing of key business process controls, evaluating results, and monitoring remediation activities.
  • Maintain comprehensive control documentation, including narratives, control matrices, and flowcharts.
  • Provide training, guidance, and advisory support to control and process owners to promote strong internal control practices.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to streamline, automate, and improve control activities, monitoring processes, and program maturity.
  • Review system implementations, enhancements, and process changes to ensure appropriate control considerations are incorporated.
  • Contribute to broader internal controls, risk management, and sustainability initiatives as required.

What we are looking for

  • Post-secondary degree in accounting, finance, information systems, or a related field
  • Professional designation such as CPA, CIA, CISA preferred; multiple certifications are considered an asset
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in internal controls, internal audit, IT audit, or risk management
  • Strong understanding of NI 52-109, SOX 404, COBIT, and ITGC best practices
  • Experience working in a publicly listed, multi-entity global environment
  • Knowledge of IT infrastructure, access management, change management, SDLC, cybersecurity principles, and ERP or cloud systems
  • Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite, Success Factors, or Salesforce, and familiarity with IT Service Management tools
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, experience with Audit Board or similar GRC platforms is an asset
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to varied audiences
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
  • Ability to influence stakeholders without formal authority and collaborate effectively across functions
  • Highly organized, able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, and committed to integrity and continuous improvement
