Location

This is a hybrid position. You will work from our Ottawa office 3 days per week.

About the team

The Senior Tax Analyst will play a key role within the tax function of our organization, providing support across global income tax accounting, tax compliance processes, and other essential tax-related responsibilities.

 

This individual will assist in preparing tax provisions, transfer pricing calculations, and indirect tax filings while also collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure the effective management of tax-related matters. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and proactive in identifying opportunities for process improvements, including leveraging automation.

What you will do

  • Assist the tax function with global income tax accounting and worldwide tax compliance processes.
  • Support the preparation of tax provision working papers for quarterly and year-end financial statement audits.
  • Support information gathering and assist in preparing transfer pricing charge calculations and supporting working papers for various jurisdictions.
  • Aid in the reconciliation of inter-company accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with tax regulations.
  • Prepare and/or review indirect tax filings (e.g., VAT, sales tax) for various jurisdictions.
  • Reconcile tax liability accounts to ensure proper reporting and accurate tax obligations.
  • Prepare working papers for tax returns in various jurisdictions, ensuring compliance with local tax laws and regulations.
  • Conduct research and analysis on various tax matters, presenting findings to finance teams and offering insights to improve business decision-making.
  • Assist with identifying and implementing process improvements within the tax function.
  • Drive efficiencies by exploring opportunities for automation in tax-related tasks.
  • Support project work based on business initiatives, ensuring that tax considerations are integrated into key business decisions and operations.

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 2-4 years of accounting and tax experience
  • CPA designation (or working towards designation)
  • Knowledge of Canadian and US tax laws and regulations, including corporate tax, indirect tax, and transfer pricing.
  • Knowledge of indirect taxes (HST, US sales tax, VAT, etc.) considered an asset
  • Experience in preparation of corporate tax returns and income tax provisions
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Experience with tax compliance software and proficiency in Excel.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across multiple teams and stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Enthusiasm for identifying process improvements and automation opportunities.
