This is a remote position. You can work from home and be located anywhere in Canada, please note if you are located in Ottawa we work a hybrid schedule where you will be expected to be in office 3 days per week.

About the team

Reporting to Senior Director of Tax, the Tax Manager is someone who works well in a team environment and independently. A self-starter with a can-do attitude and enthusiasm for learning, the Tax Manager will be part of a fast-paced, global team, and will partner with internal and external stakeholders to support the day-to-day operations of the Tax team and the business.

This role will partner with stakeholders in Finance and across other areas including HR, Legal, and Corporate IT. Tax Manager will help establish policies, implement compliant processes and systems for efficiency, and help generate returns and manage financial risk for the business.  

What you will do

  • Work within the tax function to assist in global income tax accounting and worldwide tax compliance processes
  • Prepare working papers for transfer pricing charges to related parties
  • Preparation of Canadian corporate income tax returns and work papers for the group.
  • Prepare Canadian and International tax provision workbooks as part of our quarterly financial reporting process
  • Review indirect tax filings and reconcile tax liability accounts, including review and support sales and use tax charges and filings for all jurisdictions including HST, VAT and US state and local taxes
  • Prepare the working papers to prepare tax returns in various jurisdictions
  • Communicate as necessary with CRA and provincial tax authorities to ensure tax returns are assessed/reassessed correctly
  • Liaise with external auditors and CRA/provincial tax authorities to address their audit inquiries
  • Assist with the integration of potential merger and acquisition activities
  • Research, analyze and present findings on various tax matters; additionally prepare memos to document tax position
  • Assist with process improvements by building efficiencies through automation
  • Assist with project work dependent on business initiatives
  • Be a liaison with external tax consultants and internal finance teams for international tax filings 

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent experience
  • CPA designation is required.
  • 5-7 years of accounting and tax experience working within the Canadian tax function of a large corporation or a public accounting firm
  • Experience working in a public company environment, software industry an asset
  • A clear, concise, and professional communicator with the ability to present complex information to internal stakeholders.
  • Experience working with information that requires accuracy, attention to detail, using organization skills and agility while managing multiple and sometimes conflicting priorities.
  • Highly adaptable and able to pivot based on prioritization and needs of the business; proactively solicits feedback to ensure alignment.
  • Resilient with a sense of urgency and works in a fast paced, innovation driven, and ambiguous environment.
  • Strong knowledge of common computer applications and accounting and tax related programs
  • Experience with supporting tax jurisdictions in a global company setting an asset
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian and US taxation
  • Experience in preparation of corporate tax returns, income tax provision and transfer pricing documentation
  • Experience in reviewing indirect tax filings
  • Skilled in Microsoft tools (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook).
